Position Overview
DCX is seeking an experienced Facility Technician to support the operation, maintenance, and reliability of critical cooling infrastructure at our GYR1 data center facility in Goodyear, Arizona.
This position is responsible for the preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of mission-critical HVAC systems that support both data center and administrative operations. The successful candidate will possess strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, a commitment to operational excellence, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced critical facilities environment.
The Facility Technician plays a key role in maintaining system reliability, maximizing equipment uptime, and ensuring the continuous operation of cooling systems supporting customer and facility operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on HVAC and mechanical systems throughout the facility.
· Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Stulz data center air handling units (AHUs), condensers, Bard HVAC units, and commercial rooftop units (RTUs).
· Perform replacement of filters, belts, motors, dampers, contactors, sensors, complete fan assemblies, and other HVAC components as required.
· Conduct condenser and evaporator coil cleaning, seasonal maintenance, and system optimization activities.
· Diagnose mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and controls-related issues and implement corrective actions.
· Monitor equipment performance, identify developing issues, and recommend proactive maintenance activities.
· Assist with startup, commissioning, and functional testing of HVAC equipment and facility infrastructure.
· Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and work order documentation using company systems and procedures.
· Review and update maintenance procedures, equipment documentation, control drawings, and sequences of operation as needed.
· Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and equipment manufacturers to support maintenance and repair activities.
· Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other maintenance support equipment.
· Support facility emergency response activities and participate in an on-call rotation as required.
· Comply with all company safety policies, operating procedures, lockout/tagout procedures, and critical facility standards.
· Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and respond to critical business, operational, or system issues in accordance with established response time expectations.
Qualifications
Required
· Minimum five (5) years of commercial HVAC maintenance and repair experience.
· Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing commercial HVAC systems.
· Strong understanding of HVAC mechanical systems, refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, controls, and preventive maintenance practices.
· Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, electrical schematics, control drawings, sequences of operation, and technical documentation.
· Ability to independently diagnose and repair HVAC equipment with minimal supervision.
· Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
· Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
· Must possess or be able to obtain forklift, scissor lift, and boom lift certifications within ninety (90) days of employment.
· Must be capable of safely operating aerial work platforms and material handling equipment in accordance with OSHA requirements and company policies.
Preferred
· Experience with mission-critical facilities, data centers, hospitals, telecommunications facilities, semiconductor facilities, or other 24x7 operations.
· Experience maintaining and repairing Stulz precision cooling systems, Bard HVAC units, Liebert/Vertiv cooling systems, and commercial rooftop equipment.
· Experience working with Building Automation Systems (BAS), HVAC controls, PLCs, and controller programming.
· Experience troubleshooting variable frequency drives (VFDs), EC motors, sensors, and control networks.
· EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
· OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
· Forklift certification.
· Aerial lift certifications, including scissor lifts and boom lifts.
· Technical training, trade school certification, or HVAC-related degree.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to climb ladders, work from elevated platforms, and access rooftop and mechanical equipment.
· Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other material handling equipment.
· Ability to work at heights while utilizing appropriate fall protection equipment and safety procedures.
· Ability to access rooftop HVAC equipment, elevated mechanical systems, and overhead infrastructure using ladders and aerial work platforms.
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and perform physical work for extended periods.
· Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including Arizona summer temperatures.
· Ability to respond to emergency service calls outside of normal business hours when required.
Location Requirement
Because this position supports critical facility infrastructure and may require emergency response, candidates must reside within 30 minutes of the GYR1 facility located in Goodyear, Arizona.
