Job Function
To facilitate and manage Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee meetings for the Special Education department; to ensure the accuracy and compliance of all ARD/IEP documentation in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and federal, state, and local regulations; and to support the department with appointments, scheduling ARD meetings, paperwork, maintaining files, and translating for parents.
Duties
ARD Facilitation and IEP Compliance:
- Facilitates Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee meetings, ensuring each meeting is conducted in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the IEP process, and all applicable federal, state, and local special education regulations.
- Reviews the accuracy of all data entered in ARD/IEP documents, including present levels of academic achievement and functional performance, goals, accommodations, and placement decisions.
- Interprets evaluation data and ensures the development of appropriate goals within the legal framework governing special education services.
- Collaborates with evaluation personnel to ensure comprehensive evaluations.
- Guides ARD committees in developing meaningful IEPs.
- Provides ongoing support and consultation to teachers implementing specialized instruction, including instructional strategies, behavioral interventions, and specialized programming for students with disabilities.
- Serves as a knowledgeable resource and advocate for teachers and parents, able to articulate the philosophy and rationale of the school's special education services.
Data and Records Management:
- Sets up, maintains, and records special education student information under the direction of the Director of Special Education
- Maintains current special education student files, the special education management system, and eligibility folders by updating information each time there is an ARD, parent correspondence, or a Full Individual Evaluation Report (FIE) review.
- Documents parent correspondence in the students' eligibility folders and in special education management system records, as appropriate.
- Assists campus personnel in obtaining information from campus files.
- Maintains current rosters and reports as requested to aid program management.
- Reviews PEIMS reports and compares them with the special education management system to ensure data accuracy in both systems.
- Duplicates records upon request by authorized persons.
- Assists with sending records to other schools, districts, and agencies upon request.
- Ensures consistency of information between IEPs and the special education management system.
- Provides assistance and support to case managers, the evaluation team, and campus administrators
Scheduling:
- Schedules, completes, and sends required parent ARD notices.
- Copies ARDs and Full Individual Evaluation (FIE) reports and sends home copies to parents.
- Notifies all staff of ARD meetings in a timely manner
- Schedules special education-related meetings including but not limited to ARDs, staff pre-ARDs, parent meetings, and evaluation team meetings.
Compliance:
- Attends charter meetings and professional development sessions to keep abreast of changes in current special education, local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
- Demonstrates dependability and punctuality by exercising regular attendance and promptness.
- Maintains professional ethics and exercises self-control over actions and words with students, parents, and staff members.
- Adheres to federal, state, and local policies and procedures related to special education issues.
- Maintains confidentiality of student records. Follows charter and building policies.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

- Comprehensive knowledge of IDEA, the IEP process, and special education best practices
- Experience with special education documentation systems
- Ability to interpret evaluation data and guide appropriate IEP goal development
- Knowledge of instructional strategies, behavioral interventions, and specialized programming for students with disabilities
- Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated computer and office systems skills
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish
- Demonstrated ability to understand and adhere to federal, state, and local policies and procedures
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree preferred)
- Valid Texas teacher's certificate with special education certification
- Minimum three years of teaching experience
- Direct special education experience
- Diagnostician experience (Preferred)
Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. May require travel between campuses as assigned; moderate lifting and carrying and prolonged use of a computer.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $63,000.00 - $87,600.00 per year
