General Summary:
The RTC/Focus Room Assistant is responsible for the supervision of students assigned to the RTC/Focus Room. They are responsible to the administrator assigned to supervise the program.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintains a controlled, discipline-type atmosphere.

Develops a relationship of respect and trust with students assigned to the RTC/Focus Room.

Assists students within the scope of their knowledge with regard to homework.

Administers the rules established for the RTC/Focus Room by administrators in a firm, fair, consistent manner.

Enters data in the computer for tracking necessary statistics with regard to student discipline.

Assists students in developing a personal behavioral plan.

Gathers data from logs for statistics for the RCT/Focus Room program and submits an annual report to the Principal.

Works with students, teachers, social workers, and psychologists.

Assists with conflict resolution/problem solving.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Minimum education requirement is a high school diploma. Previous college credit, WorkKeys certification or college degree preferred.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students and school personnel.

Previous experience working with children.

Ability to care for, supervise, and nurture children.

Ability to follow directions.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to assist with maintaining records of student progress.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis.

Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.

Duties include sitting, standing, frequent walking and other physical activity, as well as use of hands and arms for reaching, signaling and light lifting/carrying.

The ability to listen and effectively orally communicate information and ideas to a diverse population.

Environmental Conditions:
Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. Duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures or inclement weather conditions, including work on slippery and/or uneven surfaces. Work environment includes operating around moving vehicles.
Work Schedules:
Must be available to report during the school day at building assignment and throughout the school year consistent with the district’s school year calendar.
