Job Title: Surgery Scheduler
Job Description
The Surgery Scheduler coordinates surgical procedures and clinic appointments while providing excellent front desk and patient support. This role reviews incoming messages, verifies insurance and prior authorizations, schedules surgeries across multiple specialties, and ensures patients have a smooth experience from check-in to check-out. The position requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced medical environment.
Responsibilities

Review and process messages received via fax and email, ensuring accurate and timely follow-up.

Schedule surgeries and procedures for specialties such as gastroenterology, oncology, urology, and other surgical services, including colonoscopy and hemorrhoid procedures.

Coordinate and confirm surgery dates, times, and locations with patients, providers, and surgical teams.

Verify insurance coverage and benefits prior to surgery and office visits, ensuring accurate documentation.

Complete prior authorizations for surgeries, procedures, and related services in accordance with payer requirements.

Check patients in and out for appointments, ensuring all demographic and insurance information is accurate and up to date.

Collect co-payments and other patient financial responsibilities at the time of service and issue receipts as needed.

Answer incoming phone calls promptly and professionally, addressing patient questions, routing calls, and taking messages as appropriate.

Schedule and confirm patient appointments, including pre- and post-operative visits, follow-ups, and procedures.

Collaborate with clinical staff, including medical assistants and other care team members, to coordinate patient care and ensure accurate surgical instrumentation and preparation details are communicated.

Support front desk operations, including managing patient flow, maintaining an organized reception area, and assisting with general administrative tasks.
Essential Skills

4+ years of experience as a Surgery Scheduler.

Demonstrated surgery scheduling experience across specialties such as gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynecology, family practice, or surgical environments.

Proven experience completing prior authorizations for surgical procedures and related services.

Strong insurance verification experience, including confirming benefits and coverage for surgeries and office visits.

At least 2 years of front desk experience in a medical practice or similar healthcare setting.

Experience working in gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynecology, family practice, or other surgical settings.

Familiarity with electronic health record systems, including Epic.
Work Environment
This role is based in a clinical setting that supports surgical and specialty services such as gastroenterology, oncology, urology, and family practice. The environment involves frequent interaction with patients at the front desk, coordination with clinical and administrative staff, and regular use of electronic health records such as Epic.

This is a Contract position based out of New Braunfels, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
