Are you the person who can't walk past a process without asking "why do we do it this way?"
If you are the one noticing the bottleneck, sketching three ways to fix it, and asking the operator what actually happens.
If that's you — keep reading.
Cat-i Glass is a precision technical glass fabricator in South Elgin, IL. We cut, grind, temper, laminate, and print glass for industrial, scientific, defense, and optical customers who don't tolerate "close enough.” We've grown by doing hard things well.
Here is the scope of the job:
We need someone who can walk onto a shop floor that's been running on tribal knowledge and turn it into something repeatable, measurable, and better. You'll be talking to operators, watching the line, figuring out where the real bottleneck is versus where everyone assumes it is.
This is a good fit if you:
- Get real satisfaction from turning chaos into a process that actually holds up
- Would rather ask five questions on the floor than guess from your desk
- Have opinions about lean, Six Sigma, DFM, or root cause analysis — and have actually used them, not just studied them
- Work independently and get the job done
- Can hold your own in a conversation with a machine operator and in a meeting with plant leadership, and don't talk down to either one
What you'll actually be doing:
Establishing and refining manufacturing processes across cutting, tempering, lamination, and printing operations. Digging into yield, scrap, and cycle time data (we run Epicor Kinetic) to find where the real money is being left on the table. Standing up documentation and methodology where none exists yet. Partnering with operators and supervisors who know the equipment better than any manual does — and earning their trust instead of assuming your degree earns it for you.
What's in it for you:
A shop with enough complexity to keep you interested for years, not months. Real ownership — if you fix something, it stays fixed because you're the one who built the process, not because someone above you told you to. Direct access to leadership; this isn't a company where good ideas die in a committee.
What we have to offer:
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance — because a trip to the dentist or the eye doctor shouldn't be a financial decision.
- If you get hurt or sick, your paycheck doesn't stop. Short-term and long-term disability, so one bad injury doesn't turn into a financial crisis for your family.
- Time off that's actually yours. PTO plus floating holidays
- 401(k). Retirement isn't a "someday" problem. We help you build it starting now.
- Life insurance, on us. Company-paid, at no cost to you.
- We'll help pay for school. Tuition reimbursement if you want to keep growing — your future here isn't capped by the job you walked in with.
- This is a place you'll actually want to be. Friends & family events, a holiday party, and perks running all year long.
