Milwaukee Math and Science Academy is seeking a full-time Teacher Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. The teacher assistant will work with early elementary students.
Duties of a teaching assistant include working with students in small educational groups, supervising students inside and outside the classroom (hallway, cafeteria, recess), enforcing school policies and rules, helping students with assignments, maintaining equipment, helping the teacher with the day-to-day management of activities, monitoring student performance, preparing lesson materials, attending meetings and acting as a back-up to the teacher.
The teaching assistant will be able to cope with the challenges of different learning environments. Being able to manage the behavior of children requires patience, skill, and on-the-spot problem-solving, which is crucial in this position. A teacher assistant must be flexible because duties may change daily.
Candidates for this position must have experience in an urban school setting.
Mandatory: Applicants must:
- Have obtained an associate (or higher) degree, or
- Have at least two years of post-secondary education that is equivalent to at least 48 semester hours from an accredited higher education institution, or
- Have met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics by taking and passing one of the required assessments. (WorkKeys ACT, Parapro-Assessment ETS, ParaEducator Master) Teacher
