Graphic Production Designer / Prepress Specialist
Print-Focused | In-Office | Production Support Role
Job Overview
This is an in-office, print-focused graphic production role, not a purely creative design position. The primary responsibility of this role is preflighting, adjusting customer supplied art, preparing, and setting up files for print production, along with light design and layout work as needed.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys technical design, file accuracy, and working closely with production, and who is comfortable occasionally assisting other departments in a small business environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Preflight and prepare customer-supplied files for print production
- Set up files correctly for digital, large-format, and finishing workflows
- Make light design edits, corrections, and layout adjustments as needed
- Create simple to moderate print designs such as flyers, brochures, booklets, signage, and mail pieces
- Manipulate customer-provided artwork to meet print specifications
- Provide proofs and finalize files for production
- Communicate with customer service and production teams to ensure jobs are produced accurately and on time
- Occasionally consult with customers regarding file setup or minor design needs
While some original design work is involved, this is not a concept-heavy or brand-development role.
What This Job Is
This role is best suited for someone who:
- Enjoys print production, prepress, and file accuracy
- Is wanting to learn a variety of design skills
- Is comfortable balancing computer-based design work with occasional hands-on tasks
- Values being part of a small, collaborative team
If you are seeking a purely creative role focused on branding, campaign concepts, or portfolio-driven design work, this position will not be a good fit.
Production & Team Support Responsibilities
Because we are a small business, this role includes occasional support outside of design, including:
- Assisting production with basic tasks such as bindery or finishing when needed
- Occasionally operating digital presses (training provided)
- Helping answer phones or assist walk-in customers during busy periods
These tasks are not daily responsibilities, but flexibility and willingness to help are essential.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, especially InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat
- Comfort working on Mac operating systems
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Ability to follow production specifications and workflows
- Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
Preferred but not required:
- Experience in a print, sign, or production environment
- Familiarity with print finishing and bindery processes
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to lift boxes and materials as needed
- Comfortable working in a production-oriented environment
- Ability to shift between desk work and light physical tasks when necessary
Training on equipment, software, workflows, and prepress standards will be provided.
