The purpose of this position is to assist with the daily activities and general operations of the aquatic facility. Work involves performing duties that require independence, accountability, and responsibility.
Education and Experience:
Must be 16 years of age or older. Interested applicants can pay and complete their lifeguard training as early as 15yrs old. However, even if they possess a valid lifeguard certification, only applicants who are 16 years or older will be considered for employment at the Henry County Aquatic Center.
Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Must successfully complete the American Red Cross National Lifeguard Training Program which includes water rescue skills, First Aid, and CPR for infant, child, adult, and multi rescue situations. Applicants are responsible for the cost of the training program. Certification is valid for two (2) years after completion.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to swim 200 yards continuously using the following strokes:
-
Minimum of 50 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing propellant kick

25 yards breaststroke
-
Swim 20 yards and then perform a surface dive to a depth between 6.5-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, and swim back 20 yards with the object held above the water with both hand on the object in 1 minute and 40 seconds

Tread water without using your hands for two minutes

Knowledge of local government operations, Aquatics related programs, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.

Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job.

Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.

Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a workstation. Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and have close visual acuity.

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, humidity, temperature extremes, or traffic hazards.
