Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to join our dynamic surgical team. In this vital role, you will work closely with a single cosmetic surgeon, providing perioperative and intraoperative first assistant support to ensure optimal patient outcomes during complex procedures if the face, body and breast. Your expertise in surgical assisting, combined with your comprehensive nursing background, will contribute to delivering exceptional patient care in an outpatient ambulatory care center. This is a PART-TIME position, averaging 3-4 days a month.
Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons during operative procedures by providing perioperative support, including tissue retraction, suturing, and hemostasis. S Excellent suturing skills are a must.
- Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are sterile, functional, and ready for use.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate discharge planning and post-operative care instructions for patients.
- Document all intraoperative activities accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical records.
- Demonstrate proficiency in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to surgical procedures.
- Support infection control protocols and hospital patient safety initiatives to uphold healthcare standards.
- Qualifications
- Valid licensure as a Registered Nurse with certification as a First Assistant (RNFA) or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Extensive experience working experience in the field of plastic and cosmetic surgery a must.
- Strong knowledge of Epic EMR systems and other electronic medical record (EMR) platforms. Ability to perform photography, simple video recording and knowledge of social media posting a plus.
- Proven ability to perform rapid and skilled cosmetic suturing and assist with retraction and exposure, suctioning, positioning patient and lighting in cosmetic procedures of the face and body.
- Demonstrated competence in infection prevention practices, aseptic technique, and hospital patient safety protocols.
- Excellent analysis skills with the ability to assess physiological data such as vital signs and patient responses during surgery.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are preferred.
