Job Description:
Arnold Tool and Manufacturing Inc. is seeking an experienced Machinist to join our first-shift machine shop team in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This position will operate CNC and manual lathes, mills, grinders, and a CNC plasma cutter. This position is responsible for setting up and operating manual lathes to produce high-quality, precision parts according to prints and specifications. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and takes pride in craftsmanship.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate manual lathes to machine metal components to precise tolerances
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions
- Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials for each job
- Measure and inspect parts using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.)
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections
- Adjust machine settings to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
- Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues
- Accurately complete production and quality documentation
- Follow all company safety policies and quality standards
- Work collaboratively with supervisors and other shop personnel
- Program and operate CNC-equipped manual lathes, including entering and adjusting programs to meet part specifications and tolerances
Qualifications
- Associates Degree / High school diploma / or GED required
- 3+ years of experience operating manual lathes in a machine shop environment preferred
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and basic GD&T
- Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, and materials
- Proficient with precision measuring tools
- Basic math skills (fractions, decimals, and measurements)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines
- Programming experience
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to [50 lbs] safely
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, metal chips, and cutting fluids
