SUMMARY: The Prevention Coalition Coordinator is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and sustainability of a community prevention coalition focused on reducing substance misuse, violence, and other behavioral health challenges. This position builds collaborative partnerships among schools, government agencies, law enforcement, healthcare providers, faith-based organizations, youth-serving agencies, businesses, and community members to implement evidence-based prevention strategies that improve community health outcomes.
The coordinator serves as the primary liaison for coalition members and is responsible for strategic planning, community engagement, grant implementation, data collection, and coalition capacity building.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coalition Development & Leadership
- Recruit, engage, and retain diverse coalition members representing 12 community sectors.
- Coordinate and facilitate monthly coalition meetings and committee meetings.
- Develop meeting agendas, presentations, meeting minutes, and follow-up action items.
- Foster collaboration among community partners to address identified prevention priorities.
- Strengthen coalition infrastructure through strategic planning and leadership development.
Community Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with schools, community organizations, healthcare providers, law
- enforcement, local government, faith-based organizations, businesses, and residents.
- Represent the organization at community meetings, conferences, and prevention events.
- Coordinate community awareness campaigns and prevention initiatives.
- Organize educational workshops, trainings, and community forums.
Strategic Planning
- Assist the coalition in completing community assessments and identifying local prevention priorities.
- Develop and update strategic action plans using evidence-based prevention frameworks.
- Monitor implementation of coalition goals and objectives.
- Support sustainability planning and long-term coalition development.
Grant Implementation & Compliance
- Implement grant-funded prevention activities according to approved work plans.
- Ensure compliance with all grant requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
- Maintain accurate documentation of coalition activities.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
Data Collection & Evaluation
- Collect, organize, and analyze coalition performance data.
- Monitor program outcomes and performance measures.
- Maintain records of attendance, activities, and community engagement.
- Assist with surveys, needs assessments, and evaluation activities.
- Collaborate with evaluation staff to measure community impact.
Communication & Outreach
- Develop newsletters, social media content, and coalition communications.
- Promote coalition activities through community outreach efforts.
- Maintain coalition membership databases and communication lists.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and success stories highlighting coalition accomplishments.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage coalition calendars and event logistics.
- Coordinate training opportunities for coalition members.
- Maintain organized electronic and paper files.
- Monitor coalition budgets and approved expenditures as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Background in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or other related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred,
- High School Diploma minimum;
- Basic knowledge of substance abuse;
- Experience working with volunteers;
- Experience with program development;
- Public speaking experience;
- Computer competency requirements include Microsoft Office, Outlook, online researching techniques
- and search engine utilization;
- Ability to be accountable to peers and community;
- Knowledge of Detroit communities and local culture;
- Ability to work flexible hours;
- Ability to work with diverse staff and community as a team player and collaborator;
- Some knowledge of grant proposal writing and budgeting techniques;
- Some knowledge of staff supervision and training.
