Responsibilities:
The Batch House Plant Manager serves as the primary operator and hands-on leader of the concrete batching plant in Smithfield, VA. This role focuses on safely and efficiently managing daily batch house operations, performing preventive maintenance, ensuring quality concrete production, overseeing driver loading processes, maintaining compliance, and supporting smooth coordination with drivers, dispatch, and management to meet production demands and uphold S.B. Cox Ready Mix’s standards for safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Key Duties:
Batch House Operations:
- Operate the batch house to produce accurate, high-quality concrete mixes per specifications.
- Calibrate scales, load cells, moisture meters, and monitor equipment (mixers, silos, conveyors, dust collectors) for performance and report issues.
- Verify aggregate sizes/stockpiles, check raw material inventories (cement, aggregates, admixtures), and coordinate with loader operators for proper bin stocking.
Driver Oversight & Coordination:
- Guide drivers on proper truck positioning, loading procedures, and handling to ensure clean mixers and efficient, accurate loads.
- Check trucks for cleanliness before loading and communicate operational issues or delays.
- Align batching with driver/dispatch schedules to support timely deliveries.
Quality Control & Compliance:
- Perform tests (e.g., slump, air content) on sample mixes and log production totals, adjustments, inventory, and compliance records (via Sysdyne/database).
- Conduct daily safety inspections, hazard checks, emergency equipment verification, and maintain a clean, organized, secure workspace.
- Adhere to safety policies, environmental standards, and company procedures.
- Preventive Maintenance & Housekeeping:
- Perform routine checks and maintenance: oil levels, greasing bearings, inspecting belts/pulleys/valves/hoses, air leaks, conveyor alignment, silo/dust systems, and loader condition/fluids/cleaning.
- Clear material buildups and ensure plant/yard areas remain organized and safe.
Collaboration & Reporting:
- Provide daily feedback to management on production, equipment status, driver performance, issues encountered, and action items.
- Log daily summaries (batches/cubic yards, issues) and submit checklists.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a plant or batch house operator or experience in ready-mix concrete operations (3+ years preferred).
- Operations, logistics, and maintenance experience
- Strong knowledge of batch plant equipment, concrete mix designs, and production processes preferred
- Proficiency with batching software, databases, and/or basic reporting systems (e.g., Sysdyne).
- Valid driver’s license; CDL is a bonus.
- Physical ability to perform hands-on tasks in varying weather/conditions and work independently.
- Detail-oriented, proactive problem-solver with strong self-management and communication skills.
- Certification (e.g., ACI Concrete Field Testing, NRMCA Plant Manager) advantageous but not required.

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
