The Wastewater Technician at Astra Foods is a very hands-on position that requires the use of machinery and deep cleaning of our waste room where oils, fats, water waste, and rendering products flow from the plant for disposal. This job is to ensure our product waste is disposed of properly and sustainably while maintaining a clean and sanitized environment. This position also ensures compliance with local health regulations and Astra Food’s high standards of hygiene, while maintaining proper food safety practices and following established cleaning protocols.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Waste disposal: Properly disposing of wastewater, ensuring oils and fats flow through the systems to the tanks
- Understanding proper flow
- Check gauges, watch pressure of system
- Cleaning out lines
- Bilingual- Spanish and English
- Ability to read computer screens to ensure machine flow is working properly and which part of the plant is using the system
- Temperature monitoring
- Knowledge of general maintenance tools and their usage
- Chemical handling: Following safety procedures when using cleaning chemicals
- Compliance with regulations: Adhering to local health department sanitation standards and Astra Food’s food safety guidelines
- Report equipment issues immediately to supervisor to not disrupt plant production
- Deep cleaning: Disassembling and cleaning equipment at the end of day
- Surface sanitation: Cleaning and sanitizing all surfaces including machinery, computer equipment, tabletops, and any food contact area
- Remove all production debris and clean equipment by hand as required.
- Floor maintenance: ensuring drains are clear of debris and sanitized, floors are cleaned and scrubbed, maintain floor throughout shift free of debris
- Ability to stand for long hours, withstand different climates, working in a warmer climate within the room
Qualifications
- Bilingual- Spanish and English
- Ability to read and understand English: Computer screen, instructions, manuals, labels
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain a clean and organized work area
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects up to 50lbs, and perform repetitive motions
- Basic knowledge of sanitation procedures and chemical handling
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently
- Strong work ethic and commitment to maintaining high hygiene standards
