Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) ensuring proper technique and patient safety.
- Conduct vital signs assessments and review medical histories to ensure safe treatment planning.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, including documentation review and updates in electronic health records (EHR).
- Ensure infection prevention measures are strictly followed, including aseptic techniques and infection control protocols aligned with HIPAA compliance.
- Operate dental equipment safely and effectively while adhering to healthcare infection prevention standards.
- Collaborate with dentists and other team members to support comprehensive patient care in general dentistry and pediatric dentistry settings.
- Manage dental x-ray procedures, ensuring high-quality imaging while maintaining patient comfort and safety.
Qualifications
- Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current certification to perform dental hygiene procedures.
- Proven experience working in a dental office or clinic setting, with familiarity in dental assisting, chairside assisting, and patient care.
- Proficiency in using dental software systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for scheduling, documentation, and EHR management.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and medical coding practices.
- Expertise in infection prevention management, aseptic techniques, and healthcare infection control standards.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients effectively about their oral health needs.
- Ability to work efficiently in pediatric dentistry environments when required, demonstrating patience and adaptability for pediatric patients.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
