Position Summary
The Prep Cook / Pantry Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients, assembling cold dishes, and supporting overall kitchen operations to ensure efficient and high-quality food service. This role maintains food safety standards, assists with inventory and organization, and ensures all prep work is completed accurately and timely to support service needs.
Responsibilities
Include the following: other duties may be assigned, including all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor:
- Prepare ingredients according to recipes and kitchen standards, including chopping, slicing, mixing, portioning, and labeling.
- Assemble cold menu items such as salads, sandwiches, appetizers, desserts, and garnishes.
- Maintain proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Ensure prep stations and pantry areas are clean, organized, and fully stocked.
- Assist with receiving, rotating, and storing food deliveries (FIFO method).
- Follow standardized recipes, portion control guidelines, and presentation standards.
- Support line cooks and chefs during service as needed.
- Monitor food quality, freshness, and expiration dates.
- Maintain kitchen equipment and report maintenance.
- Assist with inventory counts and supply restocking.
- Dispose of waste properly and maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout shift.
- Follow all company policies, kitchen procedures, and safety protocols.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Banquet or event service leadership experience required.
- Knowledge of service flow and event timing.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous kitchen, food prep, or pantry experience preferred but not required.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and team oriented.
- Food Handler’s Card or ability to obtain within required timeframe.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to bend, reach, and move quickly in a busy kitchen.
- Exposure to heat, cold, sharp tools, and kitchen equipment.
- Fast-paced commercial kitchen environment.
- Include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Exposure to food allergens, cleaning chemicals, and temperature changes.
