Job Description:
Aviation & Missile Solutions, LLC. (AMS) is seeking a talented Software Developer with a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related STEM discipline to join our diverse team, in Huntsville, AL., to create unique solutions for complex problems. AMS provides responsive, cost-effective engineering and scientific solutions ranging from air and missile defense technologies, command and control, radar systems, seekers, modeling & simulation, and prototype hardware development and testing.
Position Description:
The Software Engineer performing this role will lead the development, architectural optimization, and integration of all-digital, high-fidelity radar M&S software in support of a US Army radar program and the Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) initiative.
In this role, the candidate will architect and develop physics-based signal and data processing algorithms, model complex Electronic Attack (EA) environments, and author high-performance C++/CUDA software. The candidate will integrate digital simulation products into both real-time Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) testbeds within US Government facilities and discrete event distributed simulation environments.
Essential Duties/ Responsibilities:
-
High-Fidelity Radar & EA Modeling: Design and maintain all-digital, physics-based representations of a US Army radar system. Implement end-to-end radar subsystems including antenna patterns, transmitters, receivers, RF environmental effects, signal processing (pulse compression, detection thresholding, Doppler processing), and data processing (track association, filtering, classification). Develop EA models to evaluate system performance under electronic warfare conditions.
-
Software Architecture & HPC: Write modular, maintainable C++ and GPU-accelerated CUDA code optimized for native Linux execution (RHEL/Rocky Linux). Architect M&S applications for parallel execution across high-performance compute clusters without requiring dedicated cluster lockouts. Ensure code executes in both real-time HWIL and time-managed discrete event digital simulation frameworks.
-
Verification, Validation & Accreditation (VV&A): Statistically compare M&S outputs against empirical field test data to eliminate variation sources and ensure high correlation. Execute pre-test M&S runs prior to live-fire events to validate test geometry, tactical software builds, and mitigate range failure risks.
Location:
-
Huntsville, AL
-
Position is full-time in the office.
Experience and Skills:
Basic Qualifications (required):
-
Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in software engineering, with a primary emphasis on defense simulation, signal processing, or scientific high-performance computing.
-
Advanced proficiency in Modern C++ (C++17/C++20) object-oriented design and development.
-
Direct hands-on experience developing parallel compute/GPU accelerated applications using NVIDIA CUDA.
-
Proficient software development experience in native Linux environments (RHEL, Rocky Linux, or Ubuntu).
-
Proven background developing physics-based modeling and simulation (M&S) systems.
-
Deep technical understanding of radar subsystem architecture, electromagnetic environmental modeling, radar signal processing, or data processing algorithms.
-
United States Citizenship.
-
Resident of the Huntsville, AL area or be willing to relocate.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
-
Good people skills and the desire to work with a highly technical team of engineers and scientists.
- Prior experience with radar systems, the IAMDSIM execution framework, or GSIL HWIL test facilities.
-
Domain knowledge of Electronic Attack (EA) modeling, EW environmental effects, and Electronic Protection (EP) countermeasures.
-
Experience applying statistical correlation metrics to compare simulation outputs against empirical field test data.
-
Experience with modern CMake build orchestration, Conan package management, Git version control, and CI/CD pipelines.
-
Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
Required Education and Experience:
-
Candidate must possess a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related STEM discipline from ABET accredited university.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in an applicable field.
Travel Requirements:
-
Must be able to travel up to 10 - 15 % of the year.
Physical Requirements:
-
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift and move standard computer hardware and lab equipment up to 20 lbs during lab configuration or equipment maintenance.
-
Ability to perform duties in standard office, closed-area facility, and software integration laboratory environments.
-
Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
Security Requirements:
- Citizenship: Candidate must be a US only citizen.
-
Clearance level: possess (and be able to maintain) a DoD SECRET Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a DoD SECRET SECRET Clearance.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
