Weems Community Mental Health Center currently has a fulltime Cook position available in Newton, Mississippi. This program works with adult clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare breakfast, lunch, and snacks according to established menus and recipes.
- Prepare meals in appropriate quantities for patients.
- Follow proper food handling, storage, temperature, and sanitation procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, dining, and food preparation areas.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, countertops, appliances, and work areas.
- Properly store, label, date, and rotate food and supplies.
- Monitor food inventory and notify the appropriate supervisor when supplies are needed.
- Assist with receiving and properly storing food deliveries.
- Maintain required food temperature and sanitation records.
- Ensure meals are prepared and served according to scheduled meal times.
- Maintain professional and respectful interactions with patients and staff.
- Follow all facility policies and procedures, including infection control, safety, and security requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding patients and facility operations.
- Report any concerns regarding food safety, kitchen equipment, supplies, or patient dietary needs to the appropriate supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- ServSafe certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification as required.
- Previous cooking experience required; institutional, healthcare, school, nursing home, or large-volume food preparation experience preferred.
- Knowledge of basic food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen sanitation.
- Ability to follow recipes, menus, measurements, and written instructions.
- Ability to prepare food in appropriate quantities while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with staff.
- Must be able to maintain a professional and respectful demeanor in a mental health/inpatient environment.
