Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Allergy Nurse (RN/LPN) to join our Otolaryngology Practice. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical experience, including proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic and eClinicalWorks and have a strong background in patient assessment, medication administration, and allergy-specific procedures. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment focused on allergy testing, immunotherapy, and patient education, supporting individuals with diverse needs ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics. The Allergy Nurse will collaborate closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care aligned with HIPAA standards and NCQA guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, medical history, and allergy evaluations.
- Administer allergy injections, immunotherapy treatments, and injections for other indications such as botulinum toxin treatments.
- Prepare and manage medication administration using aseptic techniques while maintaining sterile processing protocols.
- Assist with diagnostic evaluations including skin testing, spirometry, or laboratory specimen collection/processing.
- Educate patients on allergy management plans, medication use, and lifestyle modifications.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within EMR/EHR (eClinicalWorks).
- Monitor patients during procedures for adverse reactions and respond promptly using airway management and emergency protocols.
- Maintain infection control standards and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations during all patient interactions.
Requirements
- Valid RN or LPN license with current state licensure.
- Previous experience in allergy/immunology (required).
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations including children (pediatric care), seniors (geriatric care), individuals with disabilities or developmental disabilities.
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Commitment to infection control practices and maintaining sterile technique during procedures.
