Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver to join our transportation team. In this vital role, you will operate various types of vehicles, including school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles, to safely transport passengers of all ages, including children and seniors. Your primary goal is to ensure passenger safety while providing exceptional customer service and adhering strictly to traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Duties
- Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vans in accordance with state and local laws.
- Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding and disembarking, providing necessary wheelchair assistance with care and professionalism.
- Follow traffic laws, emergency response procedures for transportation, vehicle codes, and school policy guidelines to ensure safety at all times.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking brakes, lights, tires, and emergency equipment.
- Respond quickly to traffic changes or road hazards by adjusting driving behavior to maintain passenger safety and schedule adherence.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with passengers, managing behavior effectively, and ensuring a comfortable ride experience.
- Handle heavy lifting when necessary for securing luggage or assisting passengers with mobility challenges while maintaining proper body mechanics.
- Maintain accurate records of trips, incidents, vehicle inspections, and passenger logs in writing or digital systems as required.
- Follow emergency stop procedures when needed and coordinate with emergency responders if incidents occur during transit.
Experience
- Proven experience in bus driving or commercial driving roles, preferably with school bus driving or transit bus operation.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws.
- Experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable; familiarity with student discipline and behavior management is a plus.
- Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are an advantage for serving diverse communities.
- Basic first aid certification including CPR is preferred; knowledge of emergency response procedures enhances safety protocols.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and handle quick responses to traffic changes efficiently.
- Prior experience in customer service roles that require patience, professionalism, and effective communication skills.
