Freelance Photographer – Sports Event Photography
Sportograf Digital Solutions is a Germany-based global leader in participant photography at sporting events. We work with freelance photographers who join our teams for weekend events, working with their own professional equipment.
In the US, Sportograf is the official photo partner for HYROX, IRONMAN, UTMB, Spartan, Tough Mudder, and other major sporting events.
We are currently looking for experienced, reliable photographers to join our team for the 2026–2027 season.
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for photographers who are confident working in fast-paced environments, enjoy capturing athletes in action, and can consistently produce high-quality images throughout a full event day.
Professional equipment is required
To work with Sportograf, you must have:
- A professional-grade mirrorless camera body or high-end professional DSLR, with fast, reliable autofocus and strong continuous shooting performance.
- A wide-angle lens for close-range action and environmental images.
- A telephoto lens for capturing athletes and action from a distance.
- Both lenses are required. We strongly prefer both the wide-angle and telephoto lenses to have a constant f/2.8 aperture.
Having only one lens or relying on a general-purpose zoom is not sufficient for our event workflow.
Our events can involve several hours of active shooting, sometimes up to 14 hours per day, both indoors and outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions. You should be comfortable moving quickly, staying on your feet for long periods, and working in a physically demanding environment.
Image editing and post-production are handled in-house by Sportograf, so your primary responsibility is capturing great images on-site.
Teamwork is essential
Our events are large-scale team operations, and strong teamwork is a must.
Photographers are expected to communicate clearly, support their teammates, follow direction from Team Leaders, stay responsive throughout the event, and adapt when plans or conditions change.
Being a great photographer is important, but being a reliable and collaborative team member is just as important to us.
Experience in sports, event, action, or other fast-paced photography is highly valued.
You don’t necessarily need to have worked professionally in sports photography before. If you have strong technical skills, professional-grade equipment, experience photographing moving subjects, and are motivated to learn our workflow, we’d be happy to hear from you.
This is a demanding photography environment, so we are looking for photographers who are confident working with professional equipment and can consistently deliver high-quality images throughout a long event day.
