Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented CNC Set Up Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, setting up, and operating CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines to produce precision metal and plastic components. Your expertise will ensure that machining processes run smoothly, efficiently, and meet strict quality standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced machining technology in a dynamic environment dedicated to manufacturing excellence.
Duties
- Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD (Computer-Aided Design) files to determine machining specifications.
- Program CNC machines using G-code and M-code languages, including Fanuc controls, to execute precise machining operations.
- Set up CNC lathes and milling machines by installing tooling, fixtures, and calibration devices such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Perform machine setup tasks including tool selection, tool changes, zeroing axes, and verifying machine parameters for optimal operation.
- Conduct precision measurements during machining using measurement instruments like dial indicators, micrometers, calipers, and laser measurement tools to ensure parts meet quality specifications.
- Monitor ongoing machining processes for quality control; make adjustments as needed to maintain tolerances within GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards.
- Perform manual machining tasks when necessary using hand tools or manual machines such as lathes or grinders to support production needs.
- Conduct CNC quality inspections on finished parts to verify dimensions and surface finishes align with engineering requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area; perform routine maintenance on CNC equipment including tooling changes and troubleshooting mechanical issues.
- Follow lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflow efficiency and reduce waste throughout the setup process.
Qualifications
- Proven experience operating CNC machinery such as CNC lathes and milling machines with familiarity in CNC programming languages like G-code and M-code.
- Strong knowledge of CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, CAD programs) for interpreting designs and creating machine programs.
- Ability to read mechanical blueprints accurately and interpret mechanical blueprints including GD&T specifications.
- Mechanical aptitude with understanding of machining tools, tooling setups, measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers), and manual machining techniques.
- Familiarity with electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes is a plus.
- Knowledge of CNC control systems such as Fanuc or similar controllers is preferred.
- Basic math skills for calculating dimensions, feed rates, speeds, and tolerances necessary for precision manufacturing.
- Experience with measurement tools like bore gauges, height gauges, dial indicators, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and precision measurement instruments for quality control purposes.
- Mechanical knowledge related to metal machining, plastics injection molding support equipment, welding procedures, and assembly processes is advantageous.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately while adhering to safety standards; experience with hand tools and power tools is essential.
- Strong attention to detail combined with excellent problem-solving skills; ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
