About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Logistics Manager to oversee day-to-day transportation and logistics operations within a fast-paced distribution environment.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in transportation, 3PL, freight brokerage, carrier management, dispatch, and team leadership. This position requires someone who can manage operational priorities, develop carrier relationships, troubleshoot shipment issues, and lead a logistics team while maintaining excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support daily transportation and logistics operations.
- Supervise, train, coach, and develop dispatch and logistics team members.
- Coordinate shipment activity and ensure loads are processed accurately and on time.
- Manage customer load quote requests and provide timely, professional responses.
- Negotiate freight rates and terms with carriers when required.
- Select carriers based on service, cost, availability, and operational needs.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers and transportation providers.
- Track shipments and proactively communicate delays, changes, or transportation issues.
- Monitor carrier performance, service failures, and delivery performance.
- Ensure transportation documentation, reports, and system updates are completed accurately.
- Troubleshoot shipment and transportation issues through resolution.
- Analyze operational and transportation data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and applicable DOT regulations.
- Support staffing and operational needs during high-volume periods or employee absences.
- Maintain a positive, professional, and productive work environment.
Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of transportation or logistics experience, including experience in areas such as transportation operations, freight brokerage, 3PL, routing, dispatch, or distribution.
- 2+ years of leadership experience as a Manager, Supervisor, Lead, or similar role within transportation/logistics.
- Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations, vehicle weight limits, and load requirements.
- Experience working with Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
- Strong understanding of carrier management, shipment tracking, load processing, and freight quoting.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to lead and manage employees in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overnights, weekends, holidays, and overtime when needed.
Preferred:
- Experience in a 3PL, freight brokerage, warehouse, distribution center, or transportation environment.
- Experience with systems such as TruckMate, PC*Miler, Fleetmatics, or Roadnet.
- Bilingual communication skills.
- Degree in Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Ability to walk throughout a warehouse or distribution center.
- Ability to work in areas with varying temperatures.
- Ability to climb stairs.
