Job Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Psychiatric provides direct, age-appropriate nursing care in behavioral health settings under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The LPN is responsible for supporting psychiatric care by observing patient behavior, providing prescribed treatments, assisting with daily activities, administering medications, and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients with mental health conditions.
Essential Functions

Participate in patient assessments and gather behavioral, psychological, and physical data.

Provide direct care including hygiene assistance, nutrition support, ambulation, and specimen collection.

Administer prescribed medications and treatments.

Monitor and document patient responses to medications and interventions.

Maintain a therapeutic environment and monitor patient safety.

Report significant changes in patient behavior to RN and other team members.

Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.

Document all care activities and ensure records are accurate and current.

Assist with crisis intervention under RN guidance.

Maintain compliance with infection control and hospital safety protocols.

Qualifications
Education

Graduate of an accredited practical/vocational nursing program.
Licenses/Certifications
-
Current LPN license in the state of practice.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).

De-escalation/Crisis Mgmt. training (required within time frame specified in facility policy).
Experience
-
Previous experience in a psychiatric or behavioral health setting preferred.
