Overview
The Store Supervisor at The Natural Grocery Company is responsible for honoring every customer with stellar customer service. The supervisor ensures the needs of the customers are being met while also accomplishing the objectives of the day. The supervisor is trained and has the ability to work in every department in both El Cerrito and Berkeley stores to help where needed as well as manage the flow of customers and keep employees on task. This position reports directly to the Store Manager.
Job Duties, Responsibilities and Qualifications
Essential Functions
- Provide exceptional customer service and lead by example to ensure a welcoming, supportive shopping experience for all customers.
- Supervise and assist across all departments, including meat, produce, grocery, and cashiers needed at both the El Cerrito and Berkeley locations.
- Perform and oversee daily opening, mid-shift, and closing procedures to maintain smooth store operations.
- Assign tasks and redirect staff throughout the shift based on store needs and priorities.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices; ensure a secure environment for staff and customers.
- Coordinate shift coverage in response to callouts, ensuring appropriate staffing levels at all times.
- Monitor and enforce employee compliance with rest and meal break schedules.
- Create and manage the daily cashier schedule to ensure adequate front-end coverage.
- Train new employees on register use, customer service standards, and store policies.
- Support front-end operations by making change for cashiers and resolving register issues.
- Operate store communication systems, including answering and transferring calls, paging employees, and responding to inquiries promptly.
- In partnership with the Store Manager, coordinate necessary repairs by contacting appropriate service providers using the internal contact list.
- Complete administrative responsibilities including attendance and incident forms, schedule adjustments, break schedules, and internal communications (e.g., end-of-day reports, employee feedback, and recognition).
- Serve as a role model and actively contribute to a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven workplace culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support overall store success.

Other Requirements
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital communication tools.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
- Physically able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.; able to work in varied conditions.
Shifts and Availability
Shifts for this position include morning, mid-day and evening shifts. Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including ability to work in both the El Cerrito and Berkeley stores and ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Pay: $20.61 - $27.85 per hour
