Equipment Mechanic – Heavy Equipment / Diesel Technician
Location: Tampa, FL
Schedule: Monday – Friday | Typically 40–50 Hours per Week
Overtime: Paid at 150% after 40 hours
About the Opportunity
INFINITEK is a specialist technical recruitment consultancy supporting a leading heavy civil construction and equipment services business in the Tampa area.
We are hiring Equipment Mechanics for both shop-based and field / road technician positions. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced mechanics who enjoy diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment in a fast-paced environment with strong earning potential.
Our client is open to candidates from a broad heavy equipment background — experience with excavators, cranes, pumps, drilling rigs, earthmoving equipment, construction machinery, or similar mobile equipment is all of interest.
The Role:
You will be responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy equipment, both company-owned and rental fleet assets.
Positions available include:
Shop Mechanic
- Based primarily in Tampa facility
- Occasional site visits only in emergency situations
- Company vehicle provided for site callouts when needed
Road Technician / Field Mechanic
- Dedicated mobile role with company service truck
- Approximately 75% travel throughout the year
- Mix of planned maintenance, breakdown response, and field diagnostics
Key Responsibilities:
- Repair and maintain heavy equipment fleet assets
- Diagnose faults in diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Perform preventative maintenance and major repairs
- Read schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals
- Complete work orders using web-based maintenance systems
- Support breakdowns and emergency repairs on job sites
- Work safely and identify / correct hazards
- Collaborate with other mechanics to improve shop processes
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and communication
Experience with any of the following is highly valued:
- Excavators
- Cranes
- Concrete pumps
- Foundation drilling rigs
- Loaders / dozers / graders
- Heavy trucks
- Construction machinery
- Earthmoving equipment
- Industrial diesel equipment
(Bauer, Liebherr or similar OEM experience is beneficial but not essential)
About You
- 5+ years’ experience as a mechanic / technician on heavy equipment
- Strong diesel, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Able to work independently and diagnose problems accurately
- Comfortable working in shop and/or field environments
- Welding experience is a plus
- Strong work ethic and safety mindset
- Valid driver’s license preferred
