As a Lead Structural/Bridge Engineer on our Nashville, Tennessee team, you'll join a collaborative group delivering innovative transportation solutions that connect communities and improve mobility across Tennessee and the Southeast.
In this role, you'll contribute to the planning, analysis, design, and rehabilitation of transportation structures, including bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and other highway-related infrastructure. You'll work closely with project managers, roadway engineers, geotechnical engineers, and clients such as the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to deliver high-quality solutions for complex transportation projects, including support for the I-24 Choice Lanes Project.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer looking to expand their technical expertise, develop leadership skills, mentor junior engineers, and play a key role in growing Jacobs' transportation structures practice throughout Tennessee.
What you'll do
Perform structural analysis and design for transportation infrastructure projects, including bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and related structures
Develop and/or review construction documents, design calculations, technical specifications, and engineering reports
Support bridge replacement, rehabilitation, widening, and new construction projects
Coordinate with roadway, drainage, traffic, and geotechnical teams to deliver integrated project solutions
Ensure designs meet project requirements and applicable standards, including TDOT and AASHTO specifications
Review engineering documents for quality, accuracy, and constructability
Participate in project planning, scheduling, and budget management activities
Support client coordination and technical discussions with TDOT and local agencies
Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and design staff
Contribute to business development pursuits and strategic growth initiatives within the Tennessee transportation market
Here's what you'll need
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with 10+ years of bridge related design experience
Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structures is desired
8+ years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on conventional bridges
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Tennessee, or ability to obtain within six months if licensed in another state
Experience delivering bridge and transportation structure design projects for state DOTs or similar transportation agencies
Strong understanding of structural analysis and design principles
Must have strong written and verbal communications, excellent organizational skills and strong design skills with a willingness to help with proposal efforts
Ideally, you'll also have
Experience supporting TDOT transportation projects
Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and TDOT design standards
Experience with bridge rehabilitation, load ratings, and condition assessments
Proficiency with structural engineering software such as OpenBridge Designer, OpenBridge Modeler, LEAP Bridge, STAAD, MIDAS Civil, or similar tools
Experience using AutoCAD and MicroStation as well as related transportation design platforms
Design-build project experience
Experience leading structural design tasks or serving as a discipline lead
Established professional relationships within Tennessee's transportation industry

The base salary range for this position is $95,200.00 to $167,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
