Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Payroll and Accounting Specialist to join our finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing payroll processing, ensuring compliance with labor and tax laws, and maintaining accurate financial records. Your expertise will support our organization's financial health by overseeing payroll systems, handling confidential information with integrity, and ensuring seamless integration between payroll and accounting functions. Responsibilities
- Process payroll accurately and efficiently using Gusto, ensuring timely payments for all employees.
- Manage payroll tax filings, including withholding, reporting, and remittance in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts related to payroll, benefits administration, accounts payable, and receivable.
- Utilize QuickBooks accounting software to support corporate accounting activities including journal entries, account reconciliation, and financial analysis.
- Ensure compliance with employment and labor laws by staying updated on legal requirements affecting payroll processing and employee classification.
- Handle sensitive confidential information with discretion while maintaining data entry accuracy in time & attendance systems.
- Support benefits administration processes such as enrollments, changes, and terminations while ensuring accurate recordkeeping.
- Assist with governmental accounting procedures when applicable, including grant tracking or specialized reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with ownership on payroll management tasks related to employee onboarding, terminations, and benefit updates.
- Perform detailed analysis of payroll data to identify discrepancies or errors; execute account reconciliation using double entry bookkeeping principles.
Experience
- Proven experience in payroll management combined with strong accounting background; familiarity with payroll systems like Gusto, Workday, ADP, Ceridian or Kronos is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of corporate accounting practices including general ledger reconciliation, journal entries, accounts payable/receivable processing, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in spreadsheets (Excel) for data analysis is essential.
- Understanding of employment & labor law as well as tax law related to payroll processing and compliance requirements.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent data entry skills (including 10 key typing) and the ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
- Ability to interpret financial concepts related to payroll tax calculations, benefits administration, and labor law compliance.
- Familiarity with time & attendance systems like Kronos or similar tools used for tracking employee hours accurately.
- Experience working within non-profit or governmental accounting frameworks is a plus but not required.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
