Activity Leader
3 days per week, 11am - 7pm
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Activity Leader to join our team at Orchard Brook Assisted Living Center in Orchard Park, New York. As an Activity Leader, you will play a vital role in planning and implementing activities that promote resident engagement, socialization, and overall well-being.
Responsibilities
Assist the Activity Enrichment Director/Activity Director in developing and coordinating a variety of activities and programs that cater to the interests, values, and beliefs of our residents
Ensure person-centered care by putting residents and their loved ones at the heart of all decisions focused on wellness and comfort
Maintain a home environment that is adapted to meet the varied needs of each resident
Plan and implement enrichment programs that meet the physical, emotional, and psycho-social needs of each resident
Conduct and facilitate activities for residents throughout the stages of dementia (early, mid, and late)
Facilitate and coordinate a wide range of activities, including group projects, discussions, and games
Interact with residents on an individual basis and help oversee small therapeutic groups and activities
Assist in planning celebrations for special occasions
Plan and implement intergenerational programs
Assist in developing the monthly activity calendar and logging attendance at functions
Promote involvement with family and friends
Attend staff meetings and family meetings as appropriate
Participate in ongoing in-service education
Perform other duties as required
Requirements
At least 2 years' experience in gerontology or a related field, or equivalent experience in a long-term care setting
Ability to organize, motivate, and implement programs with diverse personalities
Excellent communication and computer skills
Ability to communicate with individuals with dementia
Ability to empower interactive skills among program participants
Ability to work on a team and be flexible
Willingness to work some evenings and weekends
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds and sit/stand for long periods
Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude
