Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct, hands-on assistance to students with a variety of disabilities to help them participate successfully in work-based learning activities.
2. Support students at job sites, in school programs, and approved community settings by modeling tasks and reinforcing instructional guidance provided by teaching and supervisory staff.
3. Assist students in learning and practicing specific job-related tasks in accordance with established routines and employer expectations.
4. Reinforce appropriate workplace behaviors including attendance, task completion, communication, cooperation, and time management.
5. Use structured supports such as prompting, cueing, modeling, repetition, and gradual fading of assistance to promote student independence, as directed by supervising staff.
6. Work cooperatively with special education teachers, transition coordinators, related service providers, and program supervisors to support student goals and IEP objectives.
7. Share observations and relevant information regarding student performance with supervising staff in a timely manner.
8. Maintain professional and appropriate communication with community employers under the direction of supervising staff.
9. Observe student participation and performance during assigned activities and report concerns or progress to supervisory personnel.
10. Assist in the collection and maintenance of basic records related to student attendance, participation, and skill development, as directed.
11. Follow established procedures for documentation and confidentiality.
12. Support the safety and well-being of students during all school-based and community-based activities.
13. Follow all District policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations.
14. Maintain appropriate professional conduct when working with students, District staff, and community partners.
15. Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
16. Perform other related duties as assigned to support District transition and workbased learning programs.
Experience:
- Previous experience working with children, especially those with developmental disabilities, is preferred
- Ability to work effectively with individuals with diverse learning needs and styles
Skills:
Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals
Patience and empathy when working with students who may have challenging behaviors or special needs
Organizational skills to assist in maintaining a structured and supportive learning environment
