Caregiver – Dementia Experience Required

AnsCare Services LLC is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced caregiver with prior hands-on dementia or Alzheimer’s care experience to provide one-on-one care for an elderly female client with dementia.
Dementia-care experience is REQUIRED for this position. Applicants without previous hands-on experience caring for an individual with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease will not be considered for this specific assignment.
The ideal caregiver will be patient, attentive, physically capable, dependable, and experienced in providing personal care and mobility assistance to individuals with memory-related conditions.
The client and her family have strong Christian faith and values. The caregiver should be comfortable working in a Christian household and respectfully supporting the client’s faith, prayer, spiritual preferences, and religious routines as desired by the client and her family.
Responsibilities
The caregiver will assist the client with:
- Dementia care, supervision, reassurance, redirection, and maintaining a calm and safe environment
- Meal and food preparation
- Full bathing and/or bed baths
- Personal hygiene and grooming
- Dressing and other activities of daily living
- Light housekeeping and maintaining a clean and safe living environment
- Ambulation and walking assistance
- Bed-to-wheelchair and wheelchair-to-bed transfers
- Positioning and mobility assistance
- Fall prevention and close supervision during walking and transfers
- Companionship and emotional support
- Monitoring the client for changes in condition or behavior and reporting concerns to AnsCare and the appropriate family representative
Physical Requirements
This is a hands-on caregiving assignment that requires regular mobility assistance.
The caregiver must be physically capable of:
- Safely assisting the client with bed-to-wheelchair and wheelchair-to-bed transfers
- Providing hands-on support while the client is walking
- Steadying and supporting the client if she loses her balance
- Responding appropriately and safely if the client begins to fall
- Using proper body mechanics and safe transfer techniques
- Regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, and assisting with personal care activities
The caregiver must be able to provide substantial physical assistance while maintaining the safety of both the client and caregiver.
Required Qualifications
- Previous hands-on experience caring for individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease is REQUIRED
- Experience providing personal care, including bathing and hygiene assistance
- Experience with mobility assistance and transfers
- Ability to safely assist with bed-to-wheelchair transfers and ambulation
- Understanding of dementia-related behaviors, confusion, memory loss, and redirection techniques
- Ability to remain patient and calm when working with a client experiencing confusion or behavioral changes
- Physically capable of providing the level of hands-on assistance required for this assignment
- Dependable and reliable attendance
- Good communication skills
- Compassionate, respectful, patient, and attentive
- Comfortable respectfully supporting the client’s Christian faith and spiritual practices
Preferred Credentials
Applicants with any of the following backgrounds are encouraged to apply:
- Home Health Aide (HHA)
- Personal Care Aide (PCA)
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Direct Support Professional (DSP)
- Other professional caregiving experience
Professional credentials are a plus; however, previous dementia-care experience remains a required qualification for this assignment.
About This Assignment
This is more than a companionship position. The client requires an experienced caregiver who understands how dementia can affect memory, communication, judgment, mood, and behavior.
The successful caregiver must know how to provide reassurance and redirection without confrontation and must be comfortable providing significant hands-on assistance with personal care, transfers, walking, and daily activities.
