Position Summary
The part-time Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on company fleet vehicles (class 5-8) and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities for the Diesel Mechanic role include:
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance inspections (PMs) on fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Identify, diagnose, and repair defects discovered during PM inspections.
- Troubleshoot and complete repairs across all major vehicle systems.
- Complete repairs associated with defects identified during Driver Vehicle Inspections (DVIs) and pre-trip inspections.
- Ensure all work orders are completed accurately, thoroughly, and in a timely manner.
- Respond to service calls and perform field repairs as needed.
- Coordinate with management to support efficient equipment utilization and minimize downtime.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and safety procedures.
- Operate company vehicles for pickup and delivery of equipment as required.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Valid NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Five (5) years of professional experience in diesel maintenance, repair, and heavy equipment service.
- Comprehensive personal mechanic’s toolset.
- Working knowledge of Federal DOT regulations related to interstate commercial fleets.
- Familiarity with OSHA and EPA standards applicable to maintenance and shop operations.
- Experience using electronic maintenance tracking and work order systems.
- Understanding of shop cost drivers and basic repair cost estimation.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments and varying weather conditions.
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
