This is a full or part time position working 24 hours weekly with weekend and holiday requirements. Security Officers are on campus 24/7 and act as a visible deterrent to crime and policy infractions, as well as detect and report suspicious, unsafe or criminal acts at or near their assigned posts, which may be a threat to the property, staff, visitors or patients. Interacts with psychiatric/violent patients. The position reports to the Director of Security Services.
The Security Officer is responsible for monitoring all areas of the hospital in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees.
Ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner.
Ability to handle crisis situations calmly and efficiently
Assist in lifting patients as needed to either assist nursing staff or help transport expired patients
Restrain violent/combative patients to prevent injuries to themselves, others and yourself.
Should obtain minimal level of proficiency of tasks through experience by the end of three months.
Knowledge of principles of direct patient care, certain treatments, basic observations and essential points of care about emergency patients.
Requires high level of mental alertness to avoid error and negative consequences to patients.
Spends majority of time dealing with patients of whom some may create stress, frustration, or high level of concern.
Physical abilities must allow for frequent working, stooping, bending, and frequent lifting and moving of patients.
