Express Employment Professionals is seeking a Superintendent First Assistant for a premier private golf club in Upper Marlboro, MD. This position supports the Golf Course Superintendent in managing the daily maintenance and operations of the golf course to ensure excellent playing conditions and overall course appearance.
Job Summary:
The First Assistant Superintendent helps oversee daily golf course maintenance, supervises staff, manages irrigation and turf care programs, and assists with budgeting and administrative duties. In the Superintendent’s absence, this role assumes full responsibility for course operations.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate daily golf course maintenance activities (mowing, spraying, irrigation, turf care)
- Train, schedule, and oversee maintenance staff
- Approve timecards and manage employee scheduling
- Assist with hiring and performance management
- Monitor turf conditions and determine maintenance priorities
- Manage chemical, fertilizer, and supply inventory
- Maintain irrigation systems and adjust watering schedules as needed
- Ensure equipment preventative maintenance is completed
- Assist with budgeting, purchasing, and expense tracking
- Maintain required records (water usage, chemical applications, weather logs, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations
Requirements:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Turf Management or related field
- Minimum 3 years of golf course maintenance experience
- At least 1 year of experience with budgeting and cost control
- Knowledge of turf equipment and irrigation systems
- Current State Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
- Valid driver’s license
- Prior supervisory experience preferred

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
