- Train, delegate, and supervise non-licensed school personnel in health-related tasks (e.g., medication
administration, EpiPen usage) per Michigan Public Health Code guidelines.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Consultation
Serve as a key member of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), IEP teams, and 504 committees to
address student medical needs affecting learning.
- Collaborate with local Michigan health agencies, pediatric care providers, and community resources to
support student well-being.
- Provide health education and wellness guidance to staff, students, and families.
Qualifications & Certification
- Licensure: Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Michigan
Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Certifications: Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers) required;
Certified School Nurse (CSN) or eligibility for MDE School Nurse certification strongly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical nursing experience; prior experience in pediatric,
community health, or school nursing preferred.
- Key Skills: Strong knowledge of child development, chronic condition management (e.g., diabetes,
asthma, anaphylaxis), de-escalation, and student information systems (e.g., PowerSchool).
Working Conditions
Requires mobility across multiple school buildings within the district.
- Physical ability to lift or assist students, administer CPR, and respond quickly to emergency situations.
