Shift: 2nd Shift 2:00pm - 10:00pm Monday - Friday with weekends as needed.
Job Purpose: The 2nd Shift Print Production Supervisor is responsible for all work performed on shift and needs thorough knowledge of production functions, equipment, and machinery. Manage and provide direction on 2nd shift for all production areas, including prepress, press, digital press, bindery/CFX, shipping, and maintenance. Additionally, they are responsible for the productivity, quality, timeliness, and cost control of work on 2nd shift and will assign work to and give instructions to employees.
Duties
- Directly supervise the 2nd shift team to ensure production standards, customer specifications and delivery requirements.
- Direct and coordinate production operations, adhering to company policies and procedures.
- Prioritize, schedule, and delegate work assignments.
- Plan, organize, and manage issues for efficient processes and effective employees.
- Coordinate with all departments to maintain production schedules.
- Analyze plant layout for potential expansions or plant moves.
- Post daily work schedules for shift; assign all shifts weekly, including weekends and overtime.
- Manage all work as it proceeds through production. Schedule workflow through the shift to ensure promptness and control costs.
- Give instructions pertaining to a job and answer questions team members have about their work. Help foster a well-trained and motivated team.
- Responsible for efficient employee performance to reduce non-chargeable time in the plant - will monitor performance against production standards and budgets, and implement continuous improvement where needed.
- Ensure the routine maintenance of equipment to minimize maintenance costs, down time, and maintain quality.
- Keep management informed on issues which could impact quality, cost, or safety.
- Responsible for the control of loss and spoilage in the department. Emphasize the need for quality in the work performed and spot check completed work. Work within the PRO system, when applicable, and provide continual input.
- Stay updated on technology and manufacturing methods and make appropriate recommendations.
- Works with schedulers, estimators, planners, and sales to streamline workflow.
- Determine the need for temporary staffing.
- Works closely with HR regarding the hiring process and disciplinary action.
- Work cooperatively with all production supervisors and other departments.
- Complete training records, as needed.
- Ensure that health and safety regulations are met – Safety team coordination.
- Basic understanding of EPA and OSHA requirements to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental rules.
- Perform job duties in accordance with all federal, state, local and company safety rules.
- Perform other duties as assigned by General Manager or designated representative.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience within the printing industry, with related supervisory duties and responsibilities managing a print production area.
- Operations management of a medium to large sized industrial printing organization or department, with a track record for increasing productivity, profitability, and efficiencies.
- Multi-colored printing experience, with coating material and technique knowledge, as well as understanding of bindery and shipping operations.
- Experience in building and leading functional teams in a print manufacturing environment, while successfully instilling a sense of urgency and commitment.
- Demonstrate good working knowledge of equipment with problem solving operations, functions, and proper maintenance.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of customers, managers, and employees.
- Knowledge of print on any type of material or substrate, as well as bindery and distribution functions.
- Effective communication, and facilitation skills to lead, mentor, train, and develop employees.
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively lead others and foster a productive work environment
- Supervise multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to understand and complete functional tasks on Press Inking System, Press Dampening System, Press Drying/Transfer System, Remote Ink Zone Controls and spectrodensitomer.
- Capable of meeting tight deadlines and schedules in a professional manner.
- Able to evaluate blankets, plates, fountain solutions, water, and alcohol quality sufficiently to run a project on press to customer standards.
- Working knowledge of color management software and hardware.
- Ability to evaluate and capably print Process Colors, Spot Colors, UV Inks, Foil and Coatings.
- Basic mathematical calculations – e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Creates a safe work environment, understands Safety Data Sheets and proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
