Project Engineer - Mechanical / MEP
Position Overview
We are seeking a proactive Project Engineer with strong mechanical and MEP experience to support the delivery of commercial and industrial construction projects. The ideal candidate will coordinate engineering activities across HVAC, electrical, piping, and plumbing systems, ensuring designs are constructible, compliant with codes, and delivered on time and within budget. This role bridges field operations and design teams to resolve technical issues, manage submittals and change orders, and support project planning and execution.
Key Responsibilities

Coordinate and manage mechanical and MEP engineering tasks for multiple projects, including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Review design drawings and specifications for constructability, code compliance, and integration with other disciplines.

Prepare and process submittals, RFIs, technical clarifications, and shop drawing reviews in a timely manner.

Collaborate with architects, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to resolve technical issues and ensure alignment with project requirements.

Support project managers with scheduling, scope definition, cost tracking, and progress reporting.

Develop and maintain project documentation, including calculations, as-built records, equipment selection, and operation manuals.

Assist with site coordination and provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and testing activities.

Identify and manage project risks related to mechanical and MEP systems; propose and implement mitigation strategies.

Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and coordination meetings to prevent conflicts and optimize system performance.

Support procurement activities by preparing technical specifications, evaluating vendor proposals, and reviewing equipment submittals.
Qualifications
-
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.

3+ years experience in project engineering or related roles within mechanical/MEP construction, ideally including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Familiarity with MEP coordination, building codes (e.g., ASHRAE, NEC, local codes), and industry standards.

Proficiency with AutoCAD/Revit for drawing review and coordination; experience with BIM is a plus.

Strong technical writing skills for preparing submittals, RFIs, specifications, and reports.

Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, equipment data sheets, and piping isometrics.

Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills; ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.

Experience with project scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and basic cost control practices.

Prior field experience on construction sites and familiarity with commissioning and testing procedures preferred.

Professional certifications (PE, EIT, LEED, or CxA) are advantageous but not required.
