Guided by the mission and Charter of L’Arche, the On Call Assistant supports the overall wellness of adults with intellectual disabilities living who receive care provision from L’Arche. The On Call Assistant reports directly to the House Coordinator, and works alongside them to support medical appointments and respond to emergencies in the home, in rotation with other members of the Care Team. The On Call Assistant is a leadership role that helps foster L’Arche values and participation in the wider community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
DIRECT SUPPORT OF ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs): hygiene, health, finances, recreation, personal, and spiritual growth
- Direct support hours may include supporting medical appointments as well as follow-up communication following these appointments in Therap, with providers, with families, and/or with the pharmacy.
- Proactively attend to household cleaning chores, including laundry, cooking, sweeping, sanitizing surfaces and bathrooms, taking out the trash/recycling, and washing dishes.
ON CALL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the point of contact for emergencies and critical events in the home during scheduled on call hours. Support on call in rotation with other members of the Care Team.
- Respond to on call phone calls within one hour and remain within one hour's distance of the home when scheduled as on call.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the current protocols, support plans, and medications in the home so as to knowledgeably respond to questions when called.
- Reach out to find relief coverage in case of a call out, and arrive at the home in person to support as needed.
- Support core member hospitalizations and urgent care visits in person as needed.
- Update the home verbally and in writing about schedule changes for the day.

- Participate fully in weekly weekly Assistant Team meetings
- Foster cooperative relationships with other team members, core member families, neighbors, professionals, etc.
- Be a welcoming presence in the home to any guests, volunteers, and visitors.
- Complete thorough communication and follow through from meetings, phone calls, conversations with other professionals, etc. documenting when needed and ensuring needed information is shared with those involved. Check email each shift and respond promptly.
- Help plan and participate in house celebrations- birthdays, anniversaries, holidays
Pay: From $20.50 per hour
