Position Summary
The Estimator plays a critical role in delivering high-quality electrical systems by preparing accurate cost estimates and technical proposals aligned with customer specifications and company standards.
This position collaborates closely with sales, engineering, vendors, and project management teams to define project scope, evaluate requirements, and ensure successful project handoff.
Responsibilities
- Develop accurate cost estimates and detailed technical proposals based on project scope
- Analyze blueprints, schematics, one-line diagrams, and specifications
- Collaborate with sales, engineering, vendors, and contractors to gather technical data
- Maintain project records, vendor quotes, and cost databases within the ERP system
- Support sales efforts with preliminary drawings and participation in client meetings
- Assist in training new estimating team members (no direct reports)
- Document and manage RFQs in the ERP/CRM system
- Prepare and submit quotes and preliminary drawings to clients
- Review customer purchase orders for accuracy and alignment with quotes
- Process change orders and evaluate cost impacts
- Lead internal project handoff meetings
- Maintain and update cost databases
- Communicate with vendors to obtain material pricing
- Participate in conference calls and client discussions as needed
- Ensure compliance with quoting thresholds and escalate when required
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Business, or related field preferred with 1+ year of estimating experience
- OR
- Minimum 3+ years of electrical industry experience in lieu of a degreeKnowledge:
- Electrical systems and UL-891 switchboards
- Reading schematics, one-lines, and bills of material
- Cost estimation processes
Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience with CRM/ERP systems
- Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills
- Effective communication (written and verbal)
- Experience with EPIC, SE Advantage, and Empower (preferred)
