Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented medical aide/driver to join our dynamic team. This role is essential in providing support to adults with disabilities while out at medical appointments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of patient care.
Duties
- Attend medical appointments to escort/assist clients
o Retrieve appointment cards for follow up appointments.
o Provide transportation during the scheduled appointments
o Acts as a client advocate/liaison during medical appointments
o Assist with communication ensuring client’s well-being
o Bring paperwork to and from appointment, providing to medical department upon return
o Ensure that COCs are filled out completely by outside doctors.
o Assist clients with toileting, feeding, and other basic needs while at an appointment
o Accompany clients to Emergency Department on 911 calls. Remains with client until they are admitted, discharged, or upon completion of shift (review policy). Residential staff will replace medical aide, per protocol.
o Retrieve clients from in-patient hospitalizations when needed.
o At any time during a shift, a staff may be instructed to go to the Emergency Room/hospital with a resident within the agency. In addition, a staff may be instructed to sit with and assist a hospitalized resident in their hospital room for the duration of their scheduled shift or visit, deliver personal items and/or documents, instructions, etc.
o When not on appointments, assist direct care staff within day program. Location to be determined based on needs.
o When not on appointments, deliver feeding supplies or incontinent supplies to Group Homes.
o Communicate with guardians while at medical appointments if requested.
o Assist with paperwork/filing within the medical department as needed.
o Assist in safety and cleanliness of facility.
o Must work with clients with various disabilities including but not limited to Brain Injury, CVA, Acute/Chronic Neuro, Developmental Disability, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, PICA, Down’s syndrome, etc.
o Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADL’s), medication management, personal & oral hygiene, health, toileting, general housekeeping skills, food preparation, transportation, etc.
o Supervise & assist clients with community integration/outings/activities.
o Responsible for the completion of the Medication Book, Daily Log, Daily Activities Log, critical/communication log and any individual logs implemented.
Experience
- Previous experience working with adults with disabilities.
- Familiarity with medical administrative support functions.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
