Summary
Variety is seeking an experienced professional to join the leadership team as the Director of Facilities and Construction during an exciting and pivotal moment for the organization, which is a recognized content expert and resources for individuals with disabilities throughout the region. The Director of Facilities & Construction provides strategic and operational leadership for all facilities, maintenance, construction, safety, and campus infrastructure activities across Variety’s 77-acre, multi-building campus.
This role ensures the safe, reliable, efficient, and cost-effective operation of buildings, grounds, vehicles, utilities, and capital projects while supporting staff, programs, and external partners. The position serves as a member of the leadership team and works closely with the CEO to maintain and improve the campus environment.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities Operations & Maintenance
- Lead campus-wide maintenance, preventative maintenance, repairs, and facility appearance.
- Oversee building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, utilities, aquatics, security, and life safety systems.
- Conduct routine inspections and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Coordinate emergency response and maintain on-call readiness.
Construction & Capital Projects
- Manage construction, renovation, and campus improvement projects.
- Oversee project planning, budgets, schedules, contractor performance, and execution.
- Maintain facility documentation, warranties, service records, and building plans.
- Support board and organizational initiatives related to facilities and capital improvements.
Financial & Vendor Management
- Develop and manage operating and capital budgets.
- Negotiate and administer vendor, maintenance, leasing, and service agreements.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.
Team Leadership
- Supervise facilities personnel, contractors, and volunteers.
- Establish departmental standards, procedures, and expectations.
- Collaborate across departments to support organizational priorities.
Campus Support Services
- Oversee fleet operations, campus logistics, event support, and selected technology coordination.
- Support vocational, educational, and community-use spaces across campus.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 8 years of progressive leadership experience in facilities, construction, operations, or related fields.
- Experience managing budgets, contractors, vendors, and capital projects.
- Supervisory experience required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of building systems, preventative maintenance, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
- Excellent communication, organization, negotiation, and project management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in operations, facilities, business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license required.
- IFMA or related credentials preferred.
Work Environment
- Combination of office, campus, and field responsibilities.
- Requires occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency response availability.
- Ability to walk campus and perform light physical activity, including occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
Pay: From $85,000.00 per year
