Underground Plumber Apprentice
The Underground Plumber Apprentice supports the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground sewer, water, and drain lines. Working under the direction of a licensed journeyman plumber, you'll learn to read blueprints and site plans, assist with pipe fitting, joining, and testing, and get hands-on training with trenching and excavation work. This is an entry-level opportunity for someone looking to build a career in underground plumbing while working toward full licensure.
- Assist with installing, repairing, and replacing underground sewer, water, and drain lines for residential customers.
- Learn to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and specifications to help locate and lay pipe.
- Support safe operation of trenching, excavation, and pipe-laying equipment in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Help diagnose and troubleshoot underground plumbing issues, including leaks, blockages, and line breaks.
- Assist with cutting, fitting, joining, and testing pipe using appropriate materials and techniques (PVC, cast iron, copper, etc.).
- Help ensure all work meets local and state plumbing codes, permit requirements, and safety regulations.
- Support coordination with municipal inspectors to schedule and pass required inspections.
- Maintain accurate job documentation, including work orders, materials used, and time on site.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers on job scope, timelines, and any issues that arise.
- Work safely around utility lines and coordinate with other trades on job sites as needed.
- Keep company vehicle, tools, and equipment clean, organized, and in good working condition.
- Help maintain a clean and safe job site, including proper backfill and restoration after excavation work.
- Valid PA Plumber Apprentice license (or ability to obtain one).
- Entry-level — no prior professional plumbing experience required; hands-on experience with tools, construction, or mechanical work is a plus.
- Willingness to learn sewer and drain systems, residential underground plumbing, and related repair techniques.
- Interest in operating trenching and excavation equipment; on-the-job training provided.
- Results-driven mindset with a passion for learning quality workmanship.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable using smartphones, tablets, and service management software.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and work in physically demanding conditions, including trenches and confined spaces.
