Position Overview
The Accounting Manager is a hands-on accounting leader responsible for the integrity of the general ledger, an accurate and timely financial close, and high-quality financial reporting. This role reviews financial statements, performs and oversees account analysis and reconciliations, prepares and reviews journal entries, strengthens accounting processes and controls, and partners across the business to explain results and resolve issues.
This is a remote position reporting to the Assistant Controller. The Accounting Manager will lead approximately 1-3 direct reports and will balance detailed accounting work with team leadership, coaching, and review.
Key Responsibilities

Lead key activities within the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including managing deadlines, reviewing work, and escalating issues to the Assistant Controller.

Prepare and review journal entries and supporting schedules for accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, intercompany activity, payroll, and other recurring or nonrecurring transactions.

Perform and review general ledger and balance sheet account analysis, including flux and trend analysis; investigate variances and ensure timely correction of errors.

Review financial statements and management reporting for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and alignment with U.S. GAAP and company policies.

Oversee bank reconciliations and other balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring reconciling items are supported, aged appropriately, and resolved promptly.

Supervise, coach, and develop approximately team of accounting team members; set clear priorities, review deliverables, and provide actionable feedback.

Maintain effective accounting controls, documentation, and close checklists; identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, standardization, and scalability.

Partner with FP&A and business leaders to explain actual results, provide accounting insight, and support budgeting, forecasting, and management decision-making.

Support accounting for inventory, cost of goods sold, and other consumer/CPG-related activity, as applicable to the role's final scope.

Coordinate schedules and support for external audits, tax filings, and other compliance requirements; assist with systems and process improvement initiatives.
Success Looks Like

Monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities are completed accurately and on schedule, with issues surfaced early and resolved thoughtfully.

General ledger, bank, and balance sheet reconciliations are current, well supported, and free of aged or unexplained items.

Financial statements and variance explanations are accurate, clear, and useful to accounting and business leaders.

Controls, documentation, and audit readiness improve while recurring manual work and avoidable errors decline.

Direct reports understand expectations, deliver consistently, and grow in ownership, technical capability, and judgment.
Why You'll Succeed

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

Approximately 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including both public accounting and corporate accounting experience with a roughly balanced mix between the two environments. Public accounting experience does not need to be with a Big Four firm.

Demonstrated experience with the financial close process, general ledger analysis, journal entries, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statement review.

Experience supervising or developing accounting staff and the ability to lead approximately 1-3 direct reports in a remote environment.

Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and audit support requirements.

Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with an ERP or financial accounting system; ability to learn and improve systems and workflows.

Consumer products, CPG, retail, manufacturing, or other inventory-based industry experience is helpful.
CPA license is a plus but not required. -
Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the judgment to balance detail, deadlines, and business partnership.
Compensation
The expected base salary range for this position is $115,000- $125,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications. In addition to base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based bonuses and other compensation programs.
