The City of White Sulphur Springs is accepting applications for a Full-Time Water Distribution Line Maintenance Crew in the Water Department. This position supports the City’s Water Plant by maintaining the City’s water infrastructure, to include lines, valves, meters, hydrants, pumps, and tanks.
Primary Duties Include:
· Accurately reading and recording water meter data
· Locating and identifying water leaks
· Repairing water leaks and assisting with system maintenance
· Testing and troubleshooting water meters
· Overall service of the infrastructure system (i.e. valves, meters, hydrants, pumps and tanks)
· Completing customer-related work orders
· Ability to communicate and understand directions
· Adhere to all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and established operating protocols while working independently and as part of a team.
· Maintain accurate operational records, logs, reports, and compliance documentation.
· Willingness to work in other departments as necessary and directed
· Performing additional duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to perform strenuous physical activities to include, exerting up to 100 lbs. of pressure; lift, push, pull, and carry heavy objects, equipment, and supplies up to 100 lbs. several times a day; shovel; crawl; bend; kneel; dig holes for several hours per day; climb on and off equipment; and operate vibrating equipment.
· Must be able to work indoors, outdoors, in confined spaces, in trenches, on level, slippery, sloping, unstable and muddy terrain, and under constantly noisy conditions; work in adverse environmental conditions to include inclement weather such as rain, sleet, snow, heat, sun exposure, and hazardous conditions such as street traffic, fume odor, dust/mist, chemical, toxic waste hazards, and other solid waste substances; and exposure to insects, noxious plants, and animals.
Minimum Requirements:
· Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate City vehicles safely
· WV Water Distribution certification
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screenings
· Good working knowledge of water lines and how to make repairs
· Good working knowledge of the operation of light to heavy construction equipment
· Willingness to obtain additional required certifications
· Willingness to work overtime when needed
· Availability for emergency call-outs
· General willingness to learn and develop new skills
· Strong problem-solving abilities
· Ability to work cooperatively with all departments
Compensation & Benefits:
· Pay based on experience ($17.00 - $19.00 DOE/DOQ)
