NFPA 70B Compliance Consultant — Electrical / Infrared Thermography (Part-Time, Remote)
FacilityOps AI builds a verified, audit-ready inspection evidence platform for electrical systems in critical facilities. We are Houston-based, pre-revenue, and running paid pilots. We need a part-time technical advisor, roughly 5 to 10 hours per month, who lives in NFPA 70B and infrared thermography and will tell us plainly where we are wrong.
Five questions we need answered first
This is not a vague retainer. We have specific problems and they are the first work:
1. Does NFPA 70B require a verified equipment inventory as the foundation of an Electrical Maintenance Program? We believe an accurate asset register sits inside the mandate rather than beside it, and we want that confirmed or corrected from the standard.
2. What does section 7.4.5 of the 2026 edition actually say about permanently installed continuous monitoring satisfying periodic-inspection requirements? Vendors assert one reading; we have not verified it and will not repeat it until someone has read the standard.
3. Is section 8.6.1, on test records for field work, a stronger anchor for our positioning than the inspection interval requirement we currently lead with?
4. Six vendors market NFPA 70B compliance documentation. In your working experience, do any of them actually appear in facilities, or are they mostly marketing?
5. We are building a demonstration of route-based thermal capture on a mock panel. Is it credible to a working thermographer, and what would you attack in it?
Ongoing, after that
- Reviewing our product and marketing claims for accuracy against NFPA 70B, including condition
categories, intervals and documentation requirements.
- Reviewing our evidence-pack structure against what auditors, AHJs and insurers actually expect.
- An honest current read on how insurers are treating infrared evidence versus continuous monitoring.
- Reviewing thermographer qualification, emissivity, reference and calibration language in our workflows.
- Occasional calls with prospects, insurers or auditors as a credible technical voice.
Who we are looking for
- Level II or III Certified Infrared Thermographer (Infraspection Institute, ITC or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70B and NFPA 70E. Access to the 2026 edition of NFPA 70B is a strong
plus; if you already own it, say so.
- NFPA Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP) or equivalent, preferred.
- Experience across facility types, not only data centers. NFPA 70B covers industrial plants, commercial buildings, hospitals, schools and substations, and we care about all of them.
- Insurer-side or loss-control experience a strong plus. NETA certification, particularly maintenance testing, a plus. PE a plus, not required.
- Someone who will tell us plainly where our claims are overstated. That is the job.
Details
Hourly, fully remote, no fixed schedule. $100 to $175 per hour depending on credentials and insurer-side experience. Retired and semi-retired thermographers, loss-control engineers and independent NFPA 70B consultants are very welcome.
