Organization Overview:
- The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (C.R.O.W.) is a 501(c)(3) wildlife hospital and rehabilitation center located in Sanibel, FL. CROW provides care for Florida's native and migratory wildlife on the Gulf Coast of Southwest Florida.
- CROW's fully equipped wildlife hospital admits over 5,000 patients annually including more than 200 different species of birds, mammals, and reptiles - including sea turtles.
- CROW's wildlife hospital provides state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, including digital radiography, ultrasound, rigid and flexible endoscopy, tonometery, in-house lab (with IDEXX catalyst one), dedicated surgical suite and critical care units, electronic records database, and enriched welfare-oriented rehabilitation caging.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide support in daily clinical patient care and intensive care unit duties to the Senior Staff Veterinarian and veterinary team as directed.
- Assist with patient triage exams and veterinary rechecks, perform intensive care treatments, feedings, and husbandry for intensive care patients.
- Assists in daily training and mentorship of CROW students in all aspects of patient care and hospital protocols.
- Assist the veterinary team daily in performing diagnostics (radiographs, etc.) as requested.
- Assist in monitoring patients under anesthesia and recovery, including training students in the same protocols as requested.
- Assist students, volunteers, and other support staff as needed to provide daily care for intensive care patients.
- Maintain accurate patient medical records database in compliance with regulations.
- Assist in the daily maintenance, cleaning and overall orderliness of the hospital and rehabilitative facilities.
- Assist with primary care for neonatal mammals and birds, and all aspects of the rehabilitation process when requested by the rehabilitation team.
- Give presentations or assist in educational efforts such as “CROW Campus Tours” as directed.
- Give teaching rounds for students in collaboration with the supervising veterinarian.
- Other duties as assigned (cross-trained in other areas of the clinic).
Education and/or Work Experience
- Excellent wildlife rehabilitation skills. 1-3 years working experience as a veterinary assistant or veterinary technician with wildlife experience preferred. Veterinary assistant certification or veterinary technician certification preferred.
- Must be able to work cooperatively with co-workers, volunteers, and the public.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of office equipment and software systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must be able to work efficiently, accurately, independently, and be able to multi-task.
- Must be a team player with positive attitude and willingness to teach students and staff.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA,FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards. Including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly.
- Required to stand, walk, and may have to climb and/or balance. Must frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
