This position will be located at the Missouri Geological Survey, 111 Fairgrounds Rd., Rolla, MO 65401. Regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with intermittent field work and occasional overnight travel.
The Well Installation Section oversees Missouri’s well installation requirements and permitting. Our mission is to build trust and maintain strong relationships with both Missouri’s well owners and all applicable industries. Our goal of protecting Missouri’s groundwater is accomplished by applying sound geologic science and prudent well construction practices.
Responsibilities - What you’ll do
- Implement the Water Well Drillers’ Act (Chapter 256.600 to 256.640, RSMo) and the Well Installation Regulations (10 CSR 23).
- Review well construction and plugging records for compliance.
- Perform field investigations related to well installation activities and groundwater stewardship.
- Collect well construction information and geologic data using a variety of field instruments and techniques.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with managers and team members.
- Build and maintain expertise in Missouri geology and well drilling operations.
- Partner and communicate regularly with stakeholders including public, industry, and government agencies to accomplish goals.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
- Bachelor's degree in geology or closely related field and a minimum of 30 semester
- hours or 45 quarter hours of credit in geology.
AND
- Experience in geology, hydrology, and well installation is preferred.
- Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma is preferred.
