Congratulations.
You made it through April 15.
Now what's waiting around the corner?
Oh yeah... tax season number two.
Not here.
One thing this firm is genuinely proud of is that once April is behind you, it stays behind you. There's no second busy season in September and October, giving you the chance to actually enjoy the rest of the year instead of counting down to the next deadline.
You'll be joining a well established CPA firm with a 10 person tax team that's planning for the future. With senior team members approaching retirement, they're looking for someone who can step into a true Senior Tax Accountant role, reviewing work, supporting junior staff, and gradually taking on more responsibility over time.
The role is roughly a 50/50 split between preparation and review, giving you the opportunity to stay hands on while developing your leadership skills. You'll work across individuals, partnerships, corporations, multistate returns, and a small number of trusts, estates, and nonprofit returns, making it an ideal fit if you enjoy being a true generalist.
One thing that really stood out to me was how they develop their people. Review notes aren't there just to point out mistakes. Partners and senior staff use them to explain why something needs changing, helping junior accountants improve rather than simply correcting their work.
Outside of busy season, you'll work a 37 hour week, and from Memorial Day through Labor Day you'll enjoy every other Friday off. After your first year, you'll also have the flexibility to work from home two days a week, alongside the understanding that sometimes life gets in the way and appointments don't always fit neatly around work.
They're looking for someone with around 6 to 10 years of public accounting tax experience who enjoys reviewing work, mentoring junior staff, and wants to continue growing. A CPA or EA would both be considered.
If you're just browsing the job boards and you haven't dusted off your resume yet, that's not a problem. Give me a call first on 312-564-5028. Or, if you prefer, send me a connection request or message on LinkedIn (Lucy Weibel at Distinct), and we can chat there instead.
If you're in accounting and unsure whether to apply because you don't meet every single requirement, I would still encourage you to apply. We work with CPA firms that are committed to building diverse, inclusive workplaces, and if this role is not quite right, there is a good chance I will be working on another opportunity that is.
