Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Metal Finisher / Grinder to join our fabrication team. In this role, you will be responsible for grinding, sanding, polishing, and finishing fabricated metal components to meet exact customer specifications and cosmetic quality standards. The ideal candidate has previous metal finishing experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and takes pride in producing high-quality work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Grind, sand, polish, and finish fabricated metal parts using a variety of finishing equipment.
- Operate polishing wheels, sanding equipment, buffing wheels, straight-line machines, and other finishing tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, layouts, job packets, and work instructions to determine finishing requirements.
- Set up finishing equipment using the proper tooling for each job.
- Perform cosmetic finishing on stainless steel, aluminum, cold steel, and other metals.
- Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet DSI quality standards and customer specifications.
- Identify discrepancies or quality concerns and communicate them to the Fabrication Supervisor or Lead.
- Mark prints and documentation with recommended production improvements when necessary.
- Maintain accurate inventory counts and keep materials organized.
- Recognize unsafe conditions or inefficient processes and recommend improvements.
- Continuously seeking opportunities to improve grinding, finishing, safety, and overall production efficiency.
- Accurately record labor through the Epicor time tracking system.
- Assist other departments as needed to support production goals.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all company safety procedures.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of one year of metal finishing or grinding experience required.
- Minimum of one year of manufacturing experience required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of fabrication processes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, layouts, drawings, and job packets.
- Knowledge of inspection procedures and quality standards.
- Experience finishing stainless steel, aluminum, cold steel, and similar metals.
- Ability to safely operate grinding and finishing equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Dependable, motivated, and safety conscious.
Working Conditions:
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to grinding equipment, machinery, metal dust, and moderate to high noise levels.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements throughout the shift.
- Regular lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds, with occasional lifting of heavier materials.
- Required use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and other safety equipment.
- Must be able to safely perform physical job duties in a fast-paced fabrication environment.
