Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to provide field-focused automation support, with an emphasis on outage response and troubleshooting of PLC, DCS, SIS and SCADA systems. The role combines hands-on field technician duties with system-level problem solving to ensure safe, reliable operation of process and industrial automation equipment. The ideal candidate will respond to outages, perform commissioning and maintenance tasks, and collaborate with operations and engineering to minimize downtime and improve system performance.
Key Responsibilities

Provide rapid outage support and emergency response to minimize production downtime and restore automated systems to service.

Perform field technician duties including installation, commissioning, testing and preventive maintenance of PLC, DCS, SIS and SCADA systems.

Troubleshoot hardware and software faults in PLCs, DCS and SIS, using diagnostic tools and logic analysis to identify root causes and implement fixes.

Support SCADA operations, including alarm analysis, data integrity checks and trending to aid operations and maintenance teams.

Implement and verify control logic changes, manage revision control and carry out safe changeover procedures during outages and planned maintenance.

Collaborate with operations, engineering and vendors to plan and execute shutdowns, turnarounds and system upgrades.

Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, outage reports, and test procedures for control systems and field devices.

Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, including work permits and lockout/tagout, and follow procedures for safety instrumented systems.

Assist with HMI configurations, communication setup and troubleshooting of field networks and protocols as required.

Provide on-site training and technical support to operations and maintenance staff to improve system understanding and reliability.
Qualifications
-
Proven experience in outage support and field technician roles with hands-on work in industrial environments.

Strong experience programming, commissioning and troubleshooting PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell or similar) and familiarity with ladder logic, function block and structured text.

Hands-on experience with DCS and SIS platforms, including commissioning, testing and validation of safety instrumented systems.

Working knowledge of SCADA systems, alarm management and real-time data monitoring.

Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills with experience using field diagnostic tools and oscilloscopes/logging utilities.

Ability to perform physically demanding field work, travel to sites for outages and work flexible hours including nights and weekends when required.

Relevant technical diploma or degree in Electrical, Control Systems, Instrumentation or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with operations, engineering and external vendors.

Valid drivers license and any site-specific qualifications or permits required for field access.

Nice to have: experience in industrial automation projects, HMI configuration, OPC UA and MQTT communications, Field Service Technician background and familiarity with Profinet and other industrial network protocols.
