Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Kennel Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care to animals in our facility, ensuring their health and comfort while assisting veterinary staff with various tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal care and handling, along with a passion for working with pets and their owners.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, grooming, and exercising.
- Maintain cleanliness of the kennel area and ensure a safe environment for all animals.
- Assist veterinary staff with animal restraint during examinations and procedures.
- Administer medications as directed by veterinarians or veterinary technicians.
- Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to the veterinary team.
- Handle various species of animals, including dogs, cats, and potentially equine.
- Maintain accurate records of animal care and treatments administered.
- Support front desk operations as needed, including greeting clients and managing appointments.
- Utilize veterinary terminology effectively in communication with staff and clients.
Requirements
- Previous kennel experience or equivalent animal care experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of animal husbandry practices and basic animal physiology.
- Familiarity with veterinary terminology and procedures is highly desirable.
- Experience in medication administration and animal restraint techniques.
- Background in veterinary technician or assistant roles is a plus.
- Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately, demonstrating strong dog handling skills.
- Understanding of aseptic techniques and laboratory procedures is beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with team members and pet owners.
